What are the symptoms of a faulty DPF?

Here are some signs that indicate the DPF is not regenerating properly due to the DPF sensor failing:

  • Poor engine performance.
  • Poor fuel economy.
  • High engine temperatures.
  • High transmission temperatures.
  • An increase in black smoke (soot) from the exhaust.
  • Check engine light.

Has my X Type got a DPF?

Yes, all the 2.2D autos do have DPFs. Your mileage should keep it healthy, but this was a DPF fitted to an already old engine (from the Mondeo) and was not fully developed.

What is the life expectancy of a DPF filter?

A DPF can last up to around 100,000 miles if maintained properly. After the car has exceeded that mileage, you could be looking at paying a large amount of money for a replacement – so always properly check MoT and service records when buying a used car.

Which diesel has least DPF problems?

Every diesel had to have a DPF from January 2011. We seem to get fewest reported problems from Hyundai/KIA 1.6 CRDIs and Renault/Nissan/Mercedes 1.6 dCi 130s.

Can a blocked DPF damage the engine?

Your DPF filter is designed to conduct exhaust fumes out of the car’s engine, so when it is blocked, these fumes cannot leave the engine as quickly. Not only will you be spending more on fuel, but the build up of fumes in your engine can cause severe damage to your engine.

What does DPF Full mean on Jaguar XF?

Diesel Particulate Filters
In order to meet stringent emissions regulations, introduced in 2009, all new diesel vehicles are fitted with an exhaust filter. These are also known as Diesel Particulate Filters (DPFs). Vehicles equipped with a DPF have more efficient emissions control.

Does supermarket fuel lower quality?

The short answer is no. All unleaded fuel sold in the UK conforms to the same British Standards, so you shouldn’t consider supermarket fuel to be below par.

What does the DPF do on a Jaguar X-type?

The DPF on the Jaguar X-Type is fitted to the centre part of the exhaust system with a differential pressure sensor to calculate the soot content inside the DPF and EGT (Exhaust Gas Temperature) sensors to calculate the temperature within the Diesel Particulate Filter.

Does the Jaguar X-type have a diesel particulate filter?

The Jaguar X-Type adopted the 2.2L Duratorq ZSD-422 turbocharged engine from Fords, commonly used on top-of-the-range Ford Mondeo’s, however, this particular model from 2008- also came fitted with a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) as standard.

What causes a DPF filter to block up?

Faulty or failed units can cause excess diesel particulates to be produced, thus causing the DPF filter to block quicker. This seems to effect older cars much more due to residue and carbon build up around the valve an EGR housing. Make sure you check out our EGR valve FAQ page for more information.

What happens if you put too much fuel in a DPF?

Some excess fuel required for DPF regenerations can pass the rings into the engine oil. This causes excessive fuel dilution of the oil, which in turn, increases the frequency of oil changes. Crankcase oil should be free of fuel, and levels above as little as 5% are unacceptable.
